Brené Brown says there is no growth in the comfort zone. Ever since I heard that, I have taken it to heart. In the last decade, have tried to continuously get out of my comfort zone. This has meant participating in community theater with my kids, even though I have stage fright. I go on whitewater rafting trips with my family, even though I have a fear of drowning. I go zip-lining and on mountain Jeep excursions, even though I have a fear of heights.
There is so much value in traditions and comfort in doing things the same way we have always done them. But the way that we have always done things is not always the best way and it doesn’t always provide the most growth. As a school board member, I promise to look at innovative ideas. I promise to get creative. I promise to try things a different way. I promise to lean into the discomfort of change because, as we challenge ourselves, we can progress and become better than we’ve ever been.
