For many of us, there is a teacher that stands out during our school years as someone who really made an impact on our lives. For me, it was Mr. Herbert. He was my fourth grade teacher, and he changed my life. I grew up in a poor family with a lot of children, and there was not a lot of extra money for extracurricular activities.
Mr. Herbert noticed my talents and my interests; and he believed in me. He went out of his way to find scholarships for me so that I could attend enrichment camps and other experiences over the summer. Even after I moved on to high school, he continued to watch out for me and advocate for me to receive the funds to attend the special programs. His care and concern for me opened so many doors!
Waconia schools have some of the best teachers in the state. My children have been so blessed to have the teachers they have had. I truly feel that so many of them truly love my children.
The teachers are the lifeblood of our district, and as a school board member, I will continue to support them and advocate for them because they are our biggest asset.
